Indian dance workshop for ages 6+. Students learn mudras, facial expressions, footwork, and choreography, including Bollywood. Story-based teaching over 4 days ends with a final performance.

We are pleased to offer a creative and engaging workshop in Indian dance for students, designed within the framework of Skapande skola.

About the Workshop

Indian dance is a beautiful art form that reflects the rich culture, traditions, and heritage of India. It combines rhythm, movement, expression, and storytelling. Through hand gestures (mudras), facial expressions (abhinaya), and body movements, dancers convey emotions and tell stories inspired by mythology, history, and everyday life.

This workshop introduces students to both classical Indian dance (such as Bharatanatyam) and modern styles like Bollywood. It supports the development of discipline, creativity, coordination, confidence, and teamwork.

Each session is 45 minutes.

Workshop Content

The teaching begins with an introduction to hand movements and gestures (hand mudras), followed by practice of facial expressions to help students express emotions. Students will then learn basic footwork techniques and develop coordination and body awareness.

Once they are comfortable with these foundational elements, they will learn a short choreography that combines movement, rhythm, and expression. In addition, all students will learn a brief Bollywood dance routine. The sessions are conducted in a storytelling style, making the learning process engaging and easy to understand. This approach helps students connect movement with meaning and prepares them for their final presentation.

Schedule

  • Day 1: Introduction to Indian dance, basic steps, rhythm, and simple movements
  • Day 2: Development of technique, hand gestures (mudras), and facial expressions (abhinaya)
  • Day 3: Choreography learning, practice, and rehearsal
  • Day 4: Final performance (report) for classmates, teachers, or parents

Day 1–3 include 2–3 sessions each day, depending on the children’s age. Day 4 is the presentation. Each session can be adapted in length according to the school's schedule.

  • Understand basic elements of Indian dance
