Usha Balasundaram

Ms.Usha Balasundaram is a Bharatanatyam dancer, choreographer, and teacher who founded a dance school in Stockholm and promotes Indsk dance in Sweden.

Ms. Usha Balasundaram, is an artist, choreographer and well-known dancer. She established herself as a classical dancer for one of the ancient dance form, Bharatanatyam. After undergoing rigorous training for Bharatanatyam, from Kalakshetra, Chennai, she joined Chandralekha dance company, which helped her explore the world with her outstanding performances. This also helped her to interact and know other forms of dance and art, especially having an opportunity to work with Pina Bausch, the most celebrated contemporary dancer and choreographer.

Moving to Sweden gave her the opportunity to choose her passion as her profession, where in the year 2002 she established a dance school, Saraswathy Kalakendra Institution of Fine Arts, Stockholm. The school is located in vårby gård and is spreading this ancient form of dance across Sweden. She is also a dance teacher in Stockholm Kulturskolan, Botkyrka Kulturskolan, where she has the students of different nationalities. As part of Kulturskolan, she also works with teachers of different art forms like music, contemporary dance  and organises workshops.

In this journey of spreading Indian culture and dance in Sweden, she had collaborated with many Swedish artists and have performed in Kulturhuset, Södrateatern, Unga klara, Carina Ari day of the Golden Foyer, Musikaliska, Ethnografiska museet, Fotografiska museet, Dansmuseet, Lila academi, Ulrikdals Teatern Confidencen, Stadshuset, Bergwaldhallen etc.
